I offer private classes in oil painting, drawing, watercolour, and mixed media, with guidance that’s flexible and responsive to your pace, interests, and goals. You can bring along a project you’re working on, or we can design something new together.

Whether you want to develop your technique, build your confidence, explore colour, or just enjoy the quiet joy of making art—private classes offer space to slow down, tune in, and create something meaningful.

What do we work on?

Private classes are all about creating a space for you to develop your skills, learn new techniques or work on projects special to you. Whether it's a once off class to paint something specific or a term of classes focused on learning a new medium, these classes are tailored to you!

My Philosophy

When I first started learning to paint, I taught myself—late at night, in stolen moments, piecing things together from books and YouTube videos. It was exciting, but also lonely. I remember wishing there was someone I could ask questions—someone who could guide me without judgment. That experience shapes the way I teach now.

In my classes, I always try to create a space where people feel safe to explore, play, and make mistakes. My classes aren’t about being perfect—they’re about learning to see differently, finding joy in the process, and building quiet creative confidence. Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or returning to art after years away, you’re welcome here.

Student Stories

DOROTHY'S STORY

Dorothy has always had a creative spirit and a love of art. She used to make beautiful paper flowers and sculptures from driftwood before even starting a cake making business! She first began painting with watercolours while travelling on a cruise, where she would collect postcards from the different destinations and capture the images in watercolour.

Although she had been enjoying watercolour, Dorothy had always wanted to try oil painting. When she came to Melbourne to visit her daughter Geri, I was lucky enough that both Geri and Dorothy decided to come along to one of my term oil painting classes. We had an absolute blast and it was a joy to teach both Geri and Dorothy.

On Dorothy’s next visit to Melbourne, she returned to the studio for several one-on-one painting sessions. We spent around seven hours together working on two very special pieces. One painting captured Dorothy’s family home in Sri Lanka, and the other was inspired by a beautiful photograph taken by Geri.

As we painted, we chatted and swapped stories. Dorothy told me about growing up in Sri Lanka before later moving to England, and about her many adventures along the way—building a career and family in a foreign country.

By the end of our time Dorothy had completed both paintings, and I was so proud of the work she created. They were such personal pieces, filled with memories and meaning and I feel honoured to have been part of that journey.

One of my favourite things about teaching is moments like these—when art becomes more than just a painting, and turns into a way of sharing stories, memories, and a little piece of someone’s life. Thank you Dorothy for inspiring me to keep creating, stay strong and always be kind
