If like me, you’ve always been fascinated by trying to capture faces (or even just the idea of being able to express character) - then this course is for you! Portrait Painting in Oils is a crash course in oil painting and portraiture, open to all skill levels, whether you’ve never painted before or you’re proficient in another medium and just looking to give oils a go. In this course you will learn through painting and at the end, you will have a piece to take home. You will be guide you through the fundamentals of oil painting including getting to know your medium, basic colour theory, colour mixing, composition and brushwork. **Course Dates (5 weeks on Saturday afternoons)** Week 1: 31 May 2025: 2:30pm - 4:00pm Week 2: 7 June 2025: 2:30pm - 4:00pm Week 3: 14 June 2025: 2:30pm - 4:00pm Week 4: 21 June 2025: 2:30pm - 4:00pm Week 5: 28 June 2025: 2:30pm - 4:00pm **What you will learn** - Introduction to oils and mediums, including developing a safe studio practice at home - Handling your brush and brushwork techniques - Painting wet on wet - Mixing skin tones - Painting the planes of the head - Colour matching and mixing - Basic colour theory - Composition **Inclusions** - Kit hire (all the materials you will need throughout the course + a canvas to take home) - Guide book and instructional video - 1:1 attention and support to answer your questions and guide you - Step by step guidance - Practical demonstration - Tea, coffee and snacks - Supportive and cosy environment **Want to purchase your own kit to take home?** If you'd like to purchase your own kit to keep, please select the "Course Ticket + Kit" ticket option. Kits are $95 and include: - A basic oil paint set - Canvas - Medium (refined linseed oil) - Three brushes - Turpentine Please note, this course is focussed on getting you painting quickly, so will not include a focus on drawing anatomical heads. It will however, teach you how to observe anatomical structures and construct a lifelike head :) **FAQ's** *Is the venue accessible?* The Studio has a small step (approx 5cm) to enter, and then is equipped with a ramp to move from the front room to the back. Some of the walkways are narrow, so please let me know what your mobility requirements are and I can see how I can make you most comfortable! *Is there parking/public transport access?* On street parking is available right outside the Studio along Camberwell Road. The Studio is also just across the road from the Camberwell Civic Centre.
