Alla Prima Portrait Painting

Come and spend an evening with us learning how to paint a simple alla prima portrait!

Portraiture is a scary concept for many artists. In this session we will provide you with a step by step process for achieving a realistic portrait you can be proud of.

You will be provided with all the materials you need to paint your own alla prima portrait.

This session is open to everyone - you don't need to be an artist, or even have practiced painting. Painting a portrait doesn’t have to be intimidating!

What is alla prima?

Alla prima refers to a direct painting approach where paint is applied wet on wet without letting earlier layers dry. Using this approach portraits are painted in one sitting with a sense of movement and energy.

Why alla prima?

When you’re learning to paint, it’s all about quantity over quality. Getting paint onto the canvas is the most important thing. With an alla prima style, we develop the ability to let go of the fear of a piece not being perfect.

What should I bring?

Comfortable clothes that aren’t your Sunday best (just in case you get a bit messy with the paint).

Do I need any art experience?

Absolutely not!

What if I can't attend on the day?

We understand that things happen and life can get in the way! If you are unable to attend the class please let us know as soon as possible as we purchase materials based on the number of attendees we have. If you let us know more than 7 days before the event we can refund your ticket.
